Who We Are

A living studio. A community. A revival.

The Story Behind Studio Traya

We named ourselves Studio Traya — Sanskrit for The Triad — to reflect our core belief that true fulfillment is found at the intersection of three vital forces: the creativity of our heritage, the vitality of our health, and the clarity of our daily practices.

At Studio Traya, we don't just teach art or provide health consulting — we create a space where these three elements converge, helping you build a life that is as rooted in ancient wisdom as it is optimized for the modern world.

The Philosophy of the Triad

PillarWhat It Means
Heritage (Art)Preserving the wisdom of traditional Indian arts — from Mithila to Kolam
Wellness (Health)Optimizing the body and mind through a blend of ancient practices and modern science
Experience (The Studio)The living, experiential space where these two worlds meet to transform daily life

Symbolism and Balance

Beyond just "three," Traya embodies the concept of a triad — a structure that is inherently stable. Just as a tripod provides the most stable foundation for a camera, these three pillars provide the most stable foundation for a human being:

  • Art nurtures the mind and spirit
  • Wellness nourishes the body
  • Education grounds the individual in their cultural roots

The Heart of Studio Traya

Mrs. Akilandeswari

Founder & Lead Instructor

Mrs. Akilandeswari

Founder · Lead Instructor · Traditional Arts Practitioner

Studio Traya was founded by Mrs. Akilandeswari, a dedicated practitioner and teacher of Indian traditional arts for over two decades. Her journey began with classical painting and folk performance, and over the years she has trained under multiple gurus.

Seeing a growing gap between urban life and authentic art practices, she envisioned a space where traditional knowledge is not merely demonstrated but lived, questioned, and reimagined for today's seekers. Thus, Studio Traya was born — a sanctuary for India's living art traditions.

"We don't just teach techniques. We share the philosophy, the stories, and the soul behind every brushstroke, every rhythm, every thread. Our aim is to keep these traditions alive — not as museum pieces, but as breathing, evolving practices."

What Our Community Says

We are truly grateful to have found you, ma'am. You are a talented and patient kolam teacher — not only highly skilled and experienced, but also very friendly and encouraging with kids. With your step-by-step guidance and clear explanations, my 8-year-old was able to learn the basics of kolam beautifully and with confidence. Beyond teaching the art itself, you explained the significance and cultural value of kolam. Thank you for nurturing creativity, patience, and confidence throughout your teaching.

The kolam is a sacred geometric floor pattern drawn daily in South India. It acts as a symbol of auspiciousness and an offering of hospitality. The way Akhila draws kolams — all creations are more innovative and creative, which brings more concentration to the drawing/art of straight lines. It is a kind of meditation for the inner soul. The passion behind the art makes her communication very clear and sharp.

The geometric perfection and clean lines are mesmerizing. The symmetry and precision on this freehand padi are absolutely flawless. Loop by loop, this design came together so elegantly — that center detail is perfection. Drawing this perfectly without dots requires such a calm mind and steady hand. Your daily kolams always brighten up my feed and keep our tradition alive!
